Bajwa in Beijing: Pakistan, China reaffirm strategic partnership in apex meeting

A high-level Pakistani military delegation led by Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited China to undertake wide-ranging meetings with Chinese military and political authorities, reinforcing their strategic alliance.

A senior level tri service military team from Pakistan visited the People’s Republic of China from June 9 to 12, 2022, according to a military statement released by the military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The delegation met with senior military and government officials from China to address a variety of topics.

On June 12, an apex meeting was conducted, with the Pakistani side led by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and the Chinese side led by Vice Chairman Central Military Commission of China General Zhang Youxia.

Both parties exchanged viewpoints on the international and regional security situation, and expressed satisfaction with bilateral defence cooperation.

In difficult times, Pakistan and China reaffirmed their strategic partnership and agreed to maintain regular exchanges of opinions on issues of common concern, according to an ISPR statement.

Both sides also pledged to improve tri-service training, technology, and counter-terrorism cooperation.

It should be noted that at every Pakistan-China defence meeting, military diplomacy and military-to-military cooperation have always reached new heights.

On President Xi’s invitation, the COAS is the only military chief who has visited China.

The COAS only stayed in Beijing for one day. The visit is part of the PCJMCC (Pakistan-China Joint Military Cooperation Committee), which has an apex committee, which is the highest organisation in military cooperation.

The COAS and China’s Vice Chairman Central Military Commission are both members of the supreme body (CMC). It also has two military joint cooperation subcommittees.

Military Equipment and Training (JCMA) and Joint Cooperation Military Affairs (JCMA).
