A special branch of the Punjab Livestock department foiled a bid on Thursday to supply dead chicken to various eateries in Lahore by seizing a vehicle loaded with the unwholesome meat in Renala Khurd near National Highway Shakargarh.
The team stopped the vehicle and confiscated 116 maunds of a dead chicken.
Two suspects were also apprehended by livestock authorities. It was discovered that the dead chicken was to be delivered to shawarma stands and hotels in Lahore.
When the team arrived, they came to a halt in front of a vehicle carrying a dead chicken weighing 4,640kg.
The seized vehicle carrying dead chicken meat was turned over to the City Police Station by the livestock department team.
The officials filed a FIR against two individuals who were involved in the smuggling of dead chicken to Lahore, and both are habitual suppliers of such unwholesome meat to Lahore.
