Fawad asks opposition to revisit their decision to boycott meeting

ISLAMABAD: Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry urged the joint opposition in Parliament on Friday to reconsider its decision to boycott the Parliamentary Committee on National Security’s upcoming meeting.

He called the opposition’s choice “regrettable” on Twitter.

“Any government is presenting its security policy before Parliament for the first time in seven decades.” “This is not a political issue; it is a national security problem,” the minister stated, urging the opposition to reconsider its attitude and attend the meeting with zeal.

The combined opposition declared on Thursday that it would boycott an in-camera meeting of Parliament’s National Security Committee scheduled by National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser for a presentation on the government’s security policy by National Security Adviser (NSA) Dr Moeed Yusuf.

According to a release, Moeed Yusuf will give a briefing in a closed-door session of the parliamentary committee on December 6.

“The opposition parties have already displayed responsible behavior on constitutional and public interest issues,” according to the statement.

“Despite the absence of the Leader of the House, the opposition has attended briefings and sessions, and the joint opposition and parliamentary leaders have provided their recommendations and preferred public interest throughout this tumultuous period.”
