A number of motorways and highways were closed across Pakistan on Friday morning due to dense fog blanketing many towns, The Asian Mirror reported.
Heavy fog blanketed the plains, impeding traffic on the roadways.
The M1 highway was stopped for traffic from Peshawar to Swabi due to dense fog. The motorway between Swabi and Rashkai was later reopened, however the section between Rashkai and Peshawar remained closed to traffic.
Swat Expressway was also closed for traffic between Chakdara and Colonel Sher Khan, M5 was closed for traffic between Sher Shah and Rukanpura, and M4 was closed for traffic between Sher Shah and Shorkot.
The M2 highway, which runs from Samundri to Darkhana, was also closed to traffic.
The motorway police have once again recommended commuters to use fog lights while driving on the highways and, if possible, to avoid driving during foggy conditions.
The drivers must maintain a greater distance from other vehicles than usual while travelling, according to the police. The drivers can also call hotline 130 for guidance before and during their travel, according to the police.
The police also stated that the closing of highways is for the public’s safety. These will reopen to the public as soon as the fog clears, according to the police.
