Govt decides to defer Punjab Rozgar Scheme

The government has decided to scrap the ‘Punjab Rozgar’ scheme, which was launched by the previous PTI government to disburse loans to the province’s youth.

The previous government decided to distribute Rs30 billion in loans to Punjab’s unemployed youth. However, it could only make loans worth Rs600 million among them.

According to the secretary of industry and trade, 100,000 unemployed youth took out loans under the previous government’s ‘Punjab Rozgar’ scheme.

The scheme, however, would be limited to the current fiscal year for third-party evaluation, the secretary said, adding that work on launching better loan provision schemes was underway.
