As many as 12 people, including 9 children, died of cholera in the Pir Koh area of Dera Bugti after drinking contaminated water over the last 20 days.
According to reports, a cholera epidemic has erupted in Pir Koh due to a lack of safe drinking water. Residents who lack basic necessities of life are forced to drink contaminated and brackish water at the risk of their own lives.
During the last 20 days, 12 people, including 9 children, have died from cholera, while the number of infected people has risen to 1,600, who are being treated at local government and private hospitals.
Local residents have complained that Pir Koh gas has made its way to Islamabad and then to Karachi. Not to mention other amenities, the Pir Koh residents lamented the lack of potable water.
They have expressed regret that the residents of Pir Koh are in worse shape than the people of Tharparkar. Several lives have been lost in a matter of days, and hundreds have been infected with the disease.
It is unfortunate that public representatives are awaiting elections while no one cares about the welfare of the poor.
District Health Officer Dr. Azam Bugti, on the other hand, has stated that the health department has begun providing medical assistance to Pir Koh residents.
Meanwhile, Dera Bugti Deputy Commissioner Mumtaz Khethran stated that the administration has begun providing potable water and medical services to the affected residents.
