LAHORE: The country’s electricity crisis has worsened, with 10 to 15 hours of load-shedding observed nationwide after a power shortfall of 9,000 megawatts (MW).
According to sources, the country’s power supply remained at 15,000 MW despite the demand of 24,000 MW. “Major urban areas are experiencing load shedding for up to 10 hours, while rural areas are experiencing power outages for up to 15 hours,” they said.
According to the sources, the LESCO system was overloaded, and the shortfall exceeded 1500 MW.
“The power supply quota to LESCO remains at 3400 MW against a demand of 4900 MW,” they said, adding that the overloading caused disruptions in supply to multiple grid stations, resulting in power outages throughout the city.
