Global automakers are preparing to launch 19 new electric vehicles in 2026, ranging from high-performance hypercars to compact, low-cost city EVs, underscoring the industry’s continued shift toward electrification, according to WIRED.
The upcoming models reflect a broad strategy to serve premium, mainstream, and entry-level markets as manufacturers respond to tighter emissions rules, rising competition, and evolving consumer demand.
High-Performance and Luxury EVs
At the top end of the market, Aston Martin is set to introduce the Valhalla, a hybrid hypercar combining a V8 engine with electric motors to produce more than 1,000 horsepower.
Ferrari is expected to unveil its first fully electric model, the Luce, a quad-motor grand tourer delivering more than 1,000 horsepower and a driving range exceeding 300 miles.
Luxury electric SUVs are also set to expand, including the Cayenne Electric from Porsche and the Range Rover Electric from Land Rover, both targeting high-performance and premium buyers.
Mainstream Electric Models
German carmakers are preparing key launches in the mid-market. BMW plans to roll out the iX3 SUV and an electric i3 sedan under its Neue Klasse platform, featuring ultra-fast 800-volt charging and extended driving ranges.
Mercedes-Benz is set to introduce the GLC EQ, an electric version of its best-selling SUV, while Audi’s R26 will showcase next-generation hybrid technology derived from its Formula One programme.
Affordable and Compact EVs
Several manufacturers are targeting affordability and urban mobility. Geely’s EX2 hatchback and Honda’s Super-N city EV are designed for compact markets, offering modest ranges and lower price points.
South Korea’s Kia is preparing the EV2, an entry-level electric SUV, while U.S. manufacturer Rivian plans to launch the R2, a midsize SUV aimed at broader consumer adoption.
A low-cost modular electric pickup from Slate Auto is also expected, targeting a starting price near $25,000.
Tech-Led Electric Vehicles
Technology-focused entrants are also expanding the EV landscape. The Afeela 1, developed by Sony and Honda, will emphasize digital integration and advanced sensors.
China’s Xiaomi is preparing the SU7 electric sedan, featuring high-performance computing systems and ultra-fast charging, while Volvo plans to introduce the EX60 electric SUV, focusing on safety and efficiency.
Industry analysts say the 2026 lineup highlights a strategic push by automakers to broaden EV adoption across price ranges while maintaining innovation in performance, range, and technology.
