A Chinese livestreamer reportedly lost thousands of followers after a beauty filter malfunction temporarily revealed her natural face, according to viral social media posts circulating on TikTok, Threads, and other networks.
The incident occurred while the unnamed influencer was filming a video. In the viral clips, her face initially appears smooth, pale, and digitally enhanced. Suddenly, the beauty filter slips, showing her natural complexion and more mature features before the filter quickly returns.
Social Media Reaction
Despite the glitch lasting only a few seconds, some reports claimed she lost up to 140,000 followers. However, this figure has not been independently verified.
Many fans, however, defended the livestreamer.
“I think she’s so much more prettier than the filter. The filter looks lifeless,” one viewer commented.
Others criticized the unrealistic beauty expectations perpetuated by social media, particularly around East Asian standards of beauty.
“She’s literally so beautiful I can’t… I’m so mad for her lmfao,” wrote another, referencing the short-lived unfiltered moment.
A Broader Trend
This is not the first time social media influencers have faced backlash over digital enhancements. In 2019, Chinese influencer “Your Highness Qiao Biluo” shocked followers when a filter malfunction revealed her true age and appearance, contradicting her online persona.
Similarly, some Western influencers have criticized AI filters for creating unrealistic and unattainable beauty standards. One British influencer described TikTok’s “Bold Glamour” filter as so artificial it “should be illegal”.
The Impact of Digital Filters
While the authenticity of the latest livestreamer’s facial glitch remains uncertain, the incident highlights ongoing debates over AI-powered beauty filters, online identity, and the pressures influencers face to maintain digitally altered appearances.
