All theatres across Punjab will remain closed for the entire duration of the holy month of Ramadan, authorities confirmed on Tuesday, reinforcing the province’s policy of observing religious sanctity during the fasting period.
According to an official notification issued by the Punjab Arts Council, theatre owners, licence holders, and producers have been directed to strictly comply with the closure order throughout Ramadan.
The notification makes it clear that no stage performances or theatre operations will be allowed during the holy month.
Officials warned that any violation of the directive would result in strict action. District administrations across Punjab have been instructed to monitor compliance closely and initiate disciplinary proceedings against theatres found operating in defiance of the ban.
Authorities emphasized that enforcement measures would be implemented without leniency to ensure full adherence.
The decision is aimed at maintaining respect for Ramadan, which is observed across Pakistan with religious devotion, restraint, and a focus on spiritual activities.
Government officials said such measures are taken annually to align public entertainment with the cultural and religious sensitivities of the month.
Theatre managements have been advised to cooperate fully with the authorities to avoid penalties, closures, or legal consequences.
The directive comes amid increased scrutiny of stage performances in Punjab, as regulators continue efforts to ensure that entertainment activities remain in line with approved standards and societal norms.
