The Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) has made it mandatory to include the buyer’s name and CNIC number on the Fard Baraye Bay, a key legal document used in property transactions, to enhance transparency and curb fraud across the province.
In a statement issued on Friday, the PLRA said the new requirement will ensure that every Fard Baraye Bay issued for sale purposes clearly identifies the intended buyer, significantly reducing the risk of duplication, forgery, and misuse.
CNIC-Linked Details to Create Secure Digital Record
Under the new policy, the buyer’s CNIC-linked information will be recorded from the outset, creating a secure digital trail and strengthening investor protection.
The authority said this step would also help eliminate paper-based manipulation and reduce reliance on the traditional patwari system, which has long been associated with irregularities in land dealings.
Online Verification Through Land Records Portal
According to the PLRA, the reform will enable online verification of Fard Baraye Bay through the Punjab Land Records Portal, making land transactions more reliable, transparent, and citizen-friendly.

Officials said digital verification will allow buyers, sellers, and authorities to authenticate documents quickly, minimizing disputes and delays.
Part of Broader Land Record Reforms
The Punjab government said the move is part of a broader initiative to modernize land records and protect citizens from fraud during property buying and selling.
Fard Baraye Bay is an official document used to verify land ownership for sale purposes. It confirms that a property is free from disputes and legally eligible for transfer to the buyer.
