Ubisoft Cancels Prince of Persia Remake, Delays Multiple Games Amid Studio Restructuring

Ubisoft has officially canceled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake after years of troubled development, disappointing fans of the classic 2003 action-adventure game.

The move comes as part of a major corporate restructuring, which also includes the cancellation of five additional projects, multiple game delays, and studio closures across the company.

The announcement was made during a virtual media briefing covered by gaming outlets, including VGC, detailing Ubisoft’s plans to reorganize its game development studios and pipeline for upcoming AAA video games.

Prince of Persia Remake Officially Scrapped

The highly anticipated Prince of Persia Remake has been officially discontinued. First announced in 2020, the remake faced ongoing development challenges, studio transitions, and repeated delays.

Ubisoft’s decision ends speculation over the project and confirms that the remake will never be released.

Five More Ubisoft Games Canceled

In addition to Prince of Persia, Ubisoft revealed five other projects have been canceled, including:

  • Three new original IPs

  • One mobile game

  • One additional unannounced title

Details on the canceled projects have not been disclosed, leaving gamers uncertain about the future of Ubisoft’s upcoming game lineup. Notably, Beyond Good & Evil 2 continues active development and remains a flagship title for Ubisoft.

Seven Games Delayed Until 2027

Ubisoft confirmed seven video games will be delayed, including at least one title initially planned for release in early 2026, now postponed to before April 2027. Industry rumors suggest the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake could be among the affected projects.

The delays impact Ubisoft’s AAA gaming schedule, including franchises like Far Cry, Rainbow Six, and Assassin’s Creed, potentially altering the release calendar for fans and investors.

New Structure: Five Independent “Creative Houses”

As part of the restructuring, Ubisoft will divide its game development teams into five autonomous creative houses, each functioning as a semi-independent studio.

One key division, Vantage Studios, backed by Tencent, will oversee Ubisoft’s largest franchises, including:

  • Assassin’s Creed

  • Far Cry

  • Rainbow Six

The reorganization aims to streamline game production, enhance creative autonomy, and accelerate AAA game development.

Studio Closures and Reorganization

Ubisoft confirmed the closure of its Stockholm studio and recently unionized Halifax studio, while other studios, including Massive Entertainment (developing Star Wars Outlaws), will be restructured under the new model.

The company did not reveal the total number of employee layoffs, though staffing changes are expected as part of the organizational overhaul.

Impact on Ubisoft and Gamers

The cancellation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, combined with multiple delayed and canceled games, highlights significant challenges in Ubisoft’s development pipeline.

Gamers and industry observers are closely watching how these changes will affect the release schedule of upcoming AAA video games, franchise management, and Ubisoft’s position among leading video game publishers.
