PDMA Issues Rain Alert Across Punjab Till Jan 23, Emergency Services on High Alert

Monsoon 2026 plan revealed as Pakistan faces higher rainfall risk

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a rain alert for most districts of the province from today until January 23, warning of wet weather that could affect daily life and traffic conditions.

According to the Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, rainfall is also expected in Lahore and surrounding areas, prompting authorities to activate emergency preparedness plans across the province.

Departments Directed to Remain on High Alert

Following instructions from the Chief Minister of Punjab, PDMA has directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure readiness to respond to any emergency caused by heavy rain.

The DG PDMA ordered that:

  • Emergency control rooms remain operational 24/7

  • Staff stay fully alert and available

  • Drainage and response systems be checked in advance

Rescue 1122 Teams Mobilized for Emergency Response

To deal with possible flooding, traffic incidents, or urban emergencies, Rescue 1122 disaster response teams have also been placed on high alert across the province.

Authorities said quick response units are ready to provide immediate assistance in case of road accidents, waterlogging, or building-related incidents due to heavy rainfall.

Public Advised to Follow Safety Guidelines

PDMA has urged citizens to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather

  • Stay away from weak structures and flooded areas

  • Follow official safety advisories

In case of emergency, residents have been advised to contact the PDMA Punjab helpline at 1129 for immediate assistance.

Weather Situation to Be Closely Monitored

Officials said PDMA will continue to monitor the weather situation in coordination with the Meteorological Department and local administrations, and further advisories will be issued if conditions worsen.
