In a landmark development, Pakistan is set to introduce International Animal Rights Law into university education for the first time in history, with Kinnaird Law School announcing the launch of a full undergraduate semester course on Animal Law from 2026.

The initiative marks a major milestone in embedding animal rights protection and welfare laws into Pakistan’s formal legal education system.

The course will be introduced in collaboration with Environmental and Animal Rights Consultants Pakistan, the country’s first dedicated Animal and Environmental Law firm. It will be a structured academic subject with assessments and examinations, focusing on International Animal Law frameworks, legal reform needs in Pakistan, and practical applications in courts and policymaking.

Taking Animal Rights from Courtrooms to Classrooms

Experts say this development will bring animal rights advocacy out of courtrooms and into legal education, ensuring future lawyers are trained to defend animal welfare through law, policy, and litigation. The course aims to strengthen understanding of animal protection laws, accountability mechanisms, and global legal standards.
