Camera installation under the Punjab Safe Cities project has been completed in 18 districts, according to a report submitted to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA).
The authority confirmed that surveillance coverage will be expanded to all districts in Punjab by December 31. The rollout is taking place in phases, with Phase 1 costing Rs. 5.18 billion and Phase 2 estimated at Rs. 5.64 billion.
Officials said installation of modern monitoring and security systems is progressing at a rapid pace across the province.
The development comes as Rawalpindi’s City Traffic Police recently launched its e-challan system using Safe City cameras.

More than 2,000 cameras have been installed at 359 locations in the city, allowing continuous monitoring of traffic and stricter enforcement of rules.
The automated system is now issuing electronic fines for violations such as riding motorcycles without helmets, failing to wear seat belts, speeding, and overloading.
Officials believe the expanded network of cameras will strengthen law enforcement and improve overall safety across Punjab.
