Finance ministry announces increase in pension of retired employees

ISLAMABAD: The finance ministry announced on Friday a 10% boost in pensions for retired public sector employees and a Rs25,000 minimum salary, in line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Shairf’s statement shortly after his election to the National Assembly last week.

The government issued two distinct announcements, one about pension increases and the other establishing a Rs25,000 minimum pay for civil servants. Both hikes would take effect on April 1, 2022, according to the notifications.

The raises would also apply to government servants paid from the defence budget, according to the notices. It further said that no additional funding for the hikes will be provided to the ministries and divisions.

According to the notification, civil officials earning less than Rs25,000 will receive the remaining amount as a differential allowance, which will be taxed. Those on deputation overseas or on extraordinary leave would not be eligible for the differential allowance.
