Pakistans cotton arrivals double despite flood damage

Pakistan’s cotton arrivals and imports have increased sharply despite heavy rains and flooding in key cotton-growing areas, signalling a rebound in the country’s textile supply chain.

According to data released by Arif Habib Limited, total cotton arrivals stood at 2.06 million bales in September 2025, up 118% year-on-year and almost double month-on-month.

During the first quarter of FY26, total arrivals reached 4.06 million bales, a 55% increase compared to the same period last year.

Flood damages in pakistan

The recent floods in Pakistan have caused an estimated $2.9 billion (Rs 822 billion) in damages, with over 1,000 lives lost and more than 4 million people affected.

The agriculture sector was affected the most, with losses of Rs430 billion, followed by infrastructure damage of Rs307 billion.

The floods have damaged 70 districts, with Punjab being the worst-affected province. Over 229,000 houses were damaged, and 2,811 kilometres of roads were destroyed.

The disaster has also impacted the country’s economy, reducing GDP growth by 0.3 to 0.7 percentage points in the current fiscal year.
