Legendary pacer joins forces With Babar Azam for BBL 15.
The Sydney Sixers’ chances of winning the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (BBL) have received a major boost with the announcement that legendary fast bowler Mitchell Starc has re-signed with the team, where he will join forces with Pakistan’s Babar Azam, forming a blockbuster combination of pace and precision.
Starc’s signing and Babar’s presence mean Sydney will feature one of the most exciting partnerships of the BBL season.
The veteran left-arm quick returns to the Sixers after an 11-year gap, having last played in the league back in 2014.
He is expected to join the team after January 8, following the conclusion of the Ashes, where he is set to lead Australia’s pace attack against the visiting English side. Starc is free to participate in the BBL after retiring from T20Is, meaning he is not part of Australia’s plans for the T20 World Cup next year.
“I can’t wait to pull on the Sixers’ fresh magenta shirt again,” said Mitchell Starc. “Over the past decade, I’ve stayed close to the club and am thrilled to have the chance to get back on the field this summer. The Sixers are close to my heart, and my goal is to help bring another trophy home to our fans.”
For the Sixers, Mitchell Starc’s return is not just the comeback of a local hero; it’s a major reinforcement to a squad already bolstered by Babar Azam’s signing earlier this year and the presence of Steve Smith.
The prospect of one of the world’s premier pacers bowling alongside one of the game’s most technically gifted batters has created buzz among both Australian and Pakistani fans.
The Sixers will open their BBL 15 campaign on December 14 against defending champions Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium, with Mitchell Starc expected to join later in the season.
With Babar Azam anchoring the batting and Mitchell Starc leading the attack, the Sydney Sixers will be one of the most-watched sides this season, a mix of global flair and homegrown firepower aiming for another Big Bash crown.
