‘My whole life flashed before me’: Saif Ali Khan on surviving deadly attack.
Renowned Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has opened up about the life-threatening attack he survived earlier this year, saying that in those shocking moments, “my whole life flashed before my eyes like a movie.”
In January, an intruder barged into Saif’s Mumbai home late at night, where the 55-year-old actor was with his children, Taimur and Jeh. The attacker, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, carried a wooden weapon and blade, injuring both Saif and a staff member.
The actor recalled how his immediate instinct was to ensure his children’s safety while fighting off the attacker. He suffered multiple injuries, including a serious wound near his spine, and was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.
“Surviving feels like a miracle”
Speaking to Esquire India, Saif Ali Khan said that he feels fortunate to have survived the ordeal. “There’s this crazy sense of how lucky one is because [the knife attack] was damn close. To walk away relatively unscathed is nothing short of miraculous,” he shared.
Lying injured on the floor, Saif reflected deeply on his life. He said his thoughts were not about wealth or fame but about his wife, children, and the beautiful memories they share. “At that time, I thought of how colorful life has been—the travels, the wine, my wife, and my children. Those are everything.”
The actor stressed the importance of home security after the incident. “My takeaway is that you must lock doors and be careful. We have a lot, and a lot do not. So while I am grateful, we must understand that and be careful,” he said.
He urged others to take precautions such as locking entry points and upgrading security measures to prevent such tragedies.
