Winning away from home is always special, says Ramiz Raja.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja expressed happiness as the national cricket team defeated Bangladesh in the first Test match of the two-match series Tuesday.
The former cricketer and PCB boss took to Twitter to commend Babar Azam XI for winning the match on a wicket that offered a lot to spinners.
“Congrats, boys! Chasing 200 on a turning pitch was a test of sorts. Great that the chase was executed perfectly. And winning away from home is always more special,” Ramiz Raja tweeted.
Pakistan defeated Bangladesh in the first Test match, thanks in large part to Ali’s 151-run partnership with fellow opener Abdullah Shafique. On the final day, the match ended before lunch.
Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique had already scored 109 overnight in pursuit of Bangladesh’s 202-run target.
Bangladesh’s first wicket came in the tenth over of the day when Mehidy Hasan trapped debutant Shafique lbw on 73 with a fuller delivery.
Shafique, who also hit a fifty in the first innings, was out after eight fours and a six.
Ali, who scored 133 in Pakistan’s first innings, appeared to be on track to become the first Pakistani to score a Test century pair in six years, following Misbah-ul-Haq’s against Australia in 2014.
With Pakistan trailing by 31 runs, Taijul Islam hit him in front of the middle stump with a straighter delivery.
“Our plan was to stay at the wicket and form a partnership. I’ve been performing well in domestic cricket. That’s what I brought into this game,” Ali, the match’s man of the match, stated.
He was greeted with a standing ovation as he left the crease, and he was also congratulated by Bangladeshi fielders on a superb 148-ball innings that included 12 boundaries.
