Two more people were hurt after coming into contact with kite strings in two different incidents in Lahore on Friday night.
One of the injured is said to be in critical condition.
The police in the provincial capital was completely unaware of the situation and slept the entire night away.
However, after learning of the instances, CCPO Lahore Fayyaz Ahmed Dev directed the DIG Operations to take disciplinary action against the officers deemed to be careless.
At the same time, he stated that during the current year, over 1,450 lawsuits were filed against suppliers of kite strings and kite flyers.
Residents of Lahore were urged to contact the CCPO immediately if they saw anyone selling or flying kites, according to the CCPO.
Dev also ordered that individuals selling metallic strings and kites on the internet be arrested.
Similarly, he ordered that a successful campaign against kite flying be undertaken with the help of children’s parents, the district government, and civil society.
The police chief of Lahore also ordered the establishment of teams to monitor persons flying kites at night.
Finally, he urged parents to keep an eye on their children’s activities and not allow them to become involved in illicit activities.
