Pakistani footballers await long-delayed payments from multiple events.

The Normalisation Committee appointed by FIFA to look after the affairs of the Pakistan Football Federation is under pressure to release the payments owed to Pakistani footballers across several age groups.

According to a statement by Zeeshan Shafi, Pakistan’s national football players are still waiting to be paid for several tournaments and matches they played over the past two years, creating frustration and uncertainty across the teams.

From the senior men’s squad to the under-17 and women’s sides, Pakistani footballers have not received their payments for events dating as far back as 2023.

According to Shafi, the unpaid dues include allowances and match fees for:

  • The 2023 Mauritius Four Nations Cup
  • Friendly matches against Syria and Myanmar
  • The 2024 AFC U-23 Qualifiers in Bahrain
  • The 2023 SAFF U-19 Championship held in Nepal
  • Two under-17 tournaments (with only one reportedly settled so far)

The burden to clear these issues falls on the Normalisation Committee, which was appointed by FIFA to run football affairs in the country and bring stability to the organisation.

However, time is running out. The committee’s mandate is set to end on July 31, meaning they have just a month left to resolve these outstanding payments.

The delays have caused unnecessary hardship, especially since many players rely on these earnings as their primary income.

While football in Pakistan has long struggled to be sustainable—forcing former internationals to go to extremes to make ends meet—the NC’s failure to clear payments for players currently representing the country marks another low point.

The new PFF committee has its own challenges to worry about, but a swift resolution to this mess created by its predecessors would help Mohsin Gilani’s cause in the long run.

For now, hundreds of players across all levels are still waiting, hoping the situation will finally be resolved before the committee’s mandate expires.
