Electricity supply schedule issued for Muharram

After SIMs, non-filers' electricity, gas connections to be suspended: FBR chief

Electricity supply schedule issued for Muharram.

The Power Division has ordered all power distribution companies (Discos) across the country to take immediate steps to ensure uninterrupted electricity during the holy month of Muharram.

With extreme heatwave conditions expected, authorities aim to prevent any disruption during religious gatherings.

In a letter issued Sunday, Federal Power Minister Awais Leghari emphasized the need for strict measures to maintain power supply, especially during Majalis and Ashura processions.

He instructed Discos to inspect transmission and distribution systems in sensitive areas, repair any faulty equipment, and keep emergency response teams on high alert—particularly on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

The minister also ordered the provision of backup systems such as standby generators and UPS units at critical locations.

Discos have been asked to update inventories and ensure the availability of transformers and essential materials in every subdivision.

Moreover, coordination with local authorities and effective communication with the public have been mandated to swiftly respond to any power-related issues.

Leghari warned that any lapse in fulfilling these responsibilities during Muharram would be taken seriously.
