Prime Minister Imran Khan stated on Friday that predictions about the appointment of a new army head in April were mere speculations, stressing that he maintained “excellent” connections with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
He was speaking at a political committee meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in Islamabad to discuss the opposition’s no-trust resolution, overtures to the PTI government’s associated parties, and the party’s demonstration on Sunday in the federal capital (March 27, 2022).
He also stated that because the new army chief was appointed in July or August, it was premature to discuss his appointment in March.
The premier also stated that he had not made up his mind regarding extending the present COAS’s term.
PM Imran, when asked about the chances of the opposition’s no-trust motion succeeding or failing, said the picture will become apparent only on election day. “On the ‘big day,’ we’ll know how many MNAs show up,” he continued.
