Punjab government to launch ‘student card’ with free travel scholarships & career boost

In a broader vision to support education and youth empowerment, the Punjab government has decided to introduce a comprehensive “Student Card” for all students enrolled in private and public educational institutions across the province.

The card, which is currently in the works under the Punjab Education Department, will serve multiple purposes beyond a mere ID.

It will allow students to travel free of cost on public transport by simply showing their student card — a move expected to significantly ease mobility issues, especially for students from remote and underprivileged backgrounds.

But that’s not all.

The student card will also serve as a digital profile, compiling academic records and co-curricular achievements of each student.

This database will not only assist in future academic planning but is also expected to play a key role in students’ career development, according to officials.

The Education Department has announced that national and international scholarships will also be distributed using the student card as a central access point.

To make this initiative more impactful, the department is planning to collaborate with various companies that provide student support services, from career counselling to tech-based learning platforms.

A centralized database of all students in Punjab will be created using information linked to these cards — a step the government says will help streamline educational planning and resource allocation.
