Punjab Local Bodies Ordinance

Punjab Assembly Speaker and Acting Governor Chaudhary Parvez Elahi raised concerns about the recently introduced Punjab Local Bodies Ordinance draught and directed the LG&CD Department to re-submit the ordinance draught after two amendments, The Asian Mirror reported.

Parvez Elahi directed the LG department to include in the Ordinance the Tehsil Council tier and the education limit for the Mayor and Chairman District Council (zila council).

Governor Chaudhary Sarwar is on a trip to Europe, thus Parvez Elahi has taken over as acting governor.

Ch Parvez Elahi has shown reservations about the newly introduced Punjab Local Bodies Ordinance.

The objections will be removed, and the ordinance draught will be resubmitted.

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the Punjab government to hold local government elections in the province in the first quarter of next year, and a new local government bill has been introduced in the Punjab Assembly in this regard.

Punjab’s municipal governments’ five-year terms are coming to an end on December 31.
