- OGDCL found natural gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- New discovery set to yield 2.14 million cubic feet of gas daily
- Further exploration activities are underway
The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has found substantial natural gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The newly discovered reserves are hoped to produce up to 2.14 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, marking a notable contribution to the country’s domestic energy resources.
This discovery is anticipated to enhance Pakistan’s energy self-sufficiency and help alleviate ongoing energy challenges.
“Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) is pleased to announce the successful revival and enhanced production of oil from Pasakhi-5 well, located in District Hyderabad, Sindh,” read the notice by the company.
“As part of a strategic optimisation initiative, OGDCL deployed a rig to install an artificial lift system (ESP),” the company informed.
“This achievement underscores OGDCL’s commitment to leveraging innovative technologies to maximise energy output, ensure a sustainable energy supply, and enhance Pakistan’s energy resources, thereby contributing to the nation’s economic growth,” the company said.
OGDCL is currently overseeing some of the country’s largest exploration projects with government backing.
The company continues to expand its exploration activities in the mining sector, focusing on identifying additional natural resource deposits.
Industry experts suggest this discovery could have beneficial implications for the regional energy landscape, potentially reducing dependency on imported energy sources.
The development aligns with Pakistan’s broader strategy to enhance its domestic energy production capabilities.
OGDCL officials indicate that further exploration activities are underway, with promising prospects for additional discoveries in the region.
