Rohit Sharma retires from T20Is after WC win.
Rohit Sharma has decided to retire from T20 international cricket.
He led his team to a magnificent victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 final yesterday.
India defeated South Africa in the thrilling final held in Barbados on Saturday to claim the title for the second time.
In a press conference following the match, the Indian cricket captain Rohit revealed his decision to retire from T20 international cricket, mirroring the announcement made by Virat Kohli during the post-match presentation.
“This was my last [T20I] game as well. No better time to say goodbye to this format. I’ve loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup.
“I wanted this badly. Very hard to put in words. It was a very emotional moment for me. I was very desperate for this title in my life. Happy that we eventually crossed the line.”

Rohit retired as the leading run-scorer in T20 internationals, with 4,231 runs across 159 matches.
He also holds the record for the most centuries in T20Is, with five to his name.
His illustrious career features two T20 World Cup victories: the first in 2007 as a player, and now in 2024 as captain.
The retirement of both Rohit and Kohli from T20Is was anticipated by many.
