How many animals sacrificed on Eid-ul-Azha 2024?
The Pakistan Tanners Association revealed that over 680,000 livestock were sacrificed across the country during the three-day celebration of Eid ul Azha, with the total value of these animals surpassing Rs500 billion.
Agha Syedain, a member of the association’s Central Executive Committee, provided a breakdown of the sacrifices: 290,000 cows, 330,000 goats, 385,000 sheep, 98,000 camels, and 165,000 water buffalo were offered as part of the religious observance.

The financial value of the hides alone is estimated at around Rs85 billion.
Despite this, the association has expressed significant concern over the potential loss of 40% of these hides due to extreme heat and poor handling conditions, issues that have been aggravated by recent climatic changes.

The leather industry secures 20% of its annual hide supply during Eid ul Adha.

However, this year, there are fears that the available supply might fall short by over 20%, posing a challenge to the industry’s production capacity.
Eid al-Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice also known as Yawm an-Nahr, is the second of the two main Islamic holidays alongside Eid al-Fitr.
