In a recent interview with a foreign publication, acclaimed actress Kate Winslet shared her experiences of facing severe body-shaming following the release of the iconic film “Titanic.”

Despite not being overweight, Winslet revealed she was subjected to relentless criticism about her weight, a reflection of the harsh standards prevalent in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Winslet highlighted the significant cultural shift that has occurred since then, expressing admiration for today’s young actors who exhibit confidence and embrace body positivity.

She particularly praised the images from the Met Gala, noting, “I really was smiling, because every single image of the women on the red carpet, every woman is sharing their body in the way they want to, on their terms. And knowing they can do that safely because the media is not going to criticize them.”

Contrasting her experience with the present day, Winslet recalled the intense scrutiny she endured over several years.

“This sh*t went on for years,” she said.

This is not the first instance of Winslet addressing the body-shaming she faced after “Titanic.”

In an earlier podcast, she recounted the hurtful remarks about her weight, despite not being overweight.

“Why were they so mean to me? They were so mean. I wasn’t even f**king fat,” she let out. “I would have said to journalists, I would have responded, I would have said, ‘Don’t you dare treat me like this. I’m a young woman, my body is changing, I’m figuring it out, I’m deeply insecure, I’m terrified, don’t make this any harder than it already is.’ That’s bullying, you know, and actually borderline abusive, I would say.”

Reflecting on how she would have responded to the media at the time, Winslet described her younger self as a woman undergoing natural bodily changes and grappling with insecurity.

She condemned the treatment she received as bullying and borderline abusive.

As Kate Winslet recalls being body-shamed after ‘Titanic’, the movie released on December 19, 1997, became a cultural phenomenon, winning 11 Academy Awards out of 14 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for James Cameron.
