The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed its 15-player squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to commence on June 1 and hosted jointly by the USA and the Caribbean.

The announcement was made following an extensive selection committee meeting attended by prominent cricketing figures including Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Bilal Afzal, Gary Kirsten, Mohammad Yousuf, and Wahab Riaz.

The squad features several new faces, with Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub, and Usman Khan earning their maiden call-ups to a T20 World Cup.

Returning to the squad are seasoned campaigners Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, who last featured in the 2016 and 2021 editions of the tournament, respectively.

In a statement issued by the PCB, the selection committee emphasized the squad’s balance of youth and experience, describing it as “extremely talented and well-prepared” for the upcoming event.

The statement noted that the players have been playing together for some time, suggesting a settled and cohesive unit ahead of the tournament.

Regarding player fitness, the statement highlighted that Haris Rauf, who has been recovering from an injury, is fully fit and performing well in training.

Although he missed an opportunity to play at Headingley, the PCB remains confident in his ability to contribute alongside other strike bowlers in the T20 World Cup.

Pakistan has a strong history in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, having won the 2009 event under Younis Khan’s captaincy and reaching the finals twice under Shoaib Malik (2007) and Babar Azam (2022). They have also reached the semi-finals in 2010, 2012, and 2021.

The T20 World Cup will kick off with Pakistan’s first match against the United States on June 6 at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Dallas.

Pakistan has been seeded A2 in the first round and if they qualify for the second round, then their Super Eight matches will be as follows:

21 June – vs C2, Barbados

23 June – vs B1, Barbados
