Qatar issued a fervent plea to the international community on Wednesday, urging swift action to avert what it termed as a looming “genocide” in Rafah.
This call comes in the wake of Israel’s recent seizure of the Gaza city’s crossing with Egypt and escalating threats of a broader military assault.

In a strongly worded statement, the Gulf state, known for its mediation efforts between Israel and the militant group Hamas, implored for urgent intervention to prevent the invasion of Rafah and the catastrophic consequences that could entail. T
he seizure of the main border crossing with Egypt by Israel has heightened fears of an imminent ground incursion into Rafah, despite widespread international condemnation.

The airstrikes targeting the densely populated city, which currently shelters a significant number of displaced civilians, occurred concurrently with negotiations held in Cairo aimed at brokering a hostage-release and ceasefire agreement amid the ongoing seven-month-long conflict.
