Naila Kiani summits Mount Makalu to become first Pakistani woman to ascend 11 peaks of over 8000m.

Naila Kiani’s recent accomplishment is nothing short of extraordinary.

Scaling Mount Makalu, which stands at 8,485 meters, is a monumental achievement of Naila Kiani.

“After a challenging climb through the night, Naila has achieved another historic milestone by successfully summiting Makalu, the fifth highest peak in the world at 8,485 meters, today [Sunday] at approximately 9:35am Nepal local time [8:50am Pakistan time],” Karrar Haidri, the secretary of Alpine Club of Pakistan, said in a statement.

“This latest success highlights her exceptional endurance and determination. She now holds the record as the fastest Pakistani, both male and female, to have summited 11 of the 8,000-meter peaks, accomplished in under three years.”

In 2023, she etched her name in history as the second Pakistani woman to conquer Mount Everest, following in the footsteps of Samina Baig’s 2013 achievement.

Beyond her mountaineering prowess, Kiani boasts a diverse array of talents and roles.

Based in Dubai, she thrives as a banker at HSBC, while also pursuing her passion for boxing. A mother of two daughters, she epitomizes resilience and ambition.

With an academic background in aerospace engineering from the University of London, her ascent to Associate Vice President at HSBC highlights her unwavering dedication and ability to excel across varied domains.
