Biden joins TikTok despite security concerns.

In defiance of the White House’s directive barring federal agencies from utilizing TikTok, the reelection campaign of US President Joe Biden has opted to embrace the platform, marking a significant move amid ongoing scrutiny of the app’s ties to Chinese tech conglomerate ByteDance.

During the NFL Super Bowl on Sunday, the platform, under ByteDance’s control, unveiled its inaugural video for the campaign, garnering notable traction.

By Monday morning, the video had amassed an impressive 356,000 likes and accrued 3.4 million views, while the @bidenhq account boasted a following exceeding 30,000 users.

Nevertheless, apprehensions surrounding national security implications have spurred a federal investigation into ByteDance, with several political figures advocating for a blanket ban due to apprehensions regarding potential Chinese government access to user data or its exploitation for propaganda purposes.

In response to such concerns, the Biden administration had previously directed government agencies to expunge TikTok from devices owned by the federal government.

As Biden joins TikTok despite security concerns, TikTok has consistently maintained its stance that it refrains from sharing US user data with the Chinese government and has instituted robust privacy measures.

However, the company has refrained from immediate commentary on the matter in response to requests for comment.
