Election holidays for schools announced in Punjab

Sindh announces five-day holidays on Eidul Fitr

Election holidays for schools announced in Punjab. In anticipation of the forthcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, the Punjab government has declared a temporary shutdown of schools, colleges, and universities in the province.

Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi took to the social media platform X to make the official announcement.

The provincial cabinet has approved the temporary closure, affecting public and private educational institutions.

According to the statement on social media, all schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will remain closed from February 6th to February 9th, allowing students and staff to participate in or prepare for the electoral process.

Furthermore, it was emphasized that the 9:30 am timing for schools will be in effect only until February 3rd. Subsequently, regular school timings are expected to resume following the brief hiatus.

The decision to close educational institutions aligns with the government’s efforts to facilitate the smooth conduct of the general elections and to ensure the safety and participation of students and faculty members.

On the other hand, in response to recent heavy rainfall and with additional precipitation forecasted in the coming days, the local administration in Lahore, the capital of Punjab, has announced revised school timings effective February 1.

According to a notification issued on Wednesday, boys’ schools across the provincial capital will now commence regular classes at 8:30 am, concluding at 2:30 pm.

Meanwhile, girls’ schools will operate from 8:15 am to 2:15 pm. Notably, on Fridays, boys’ schools will conclude classes at 12:15 pm, with girls’ schools closing at noon.

For schools with double shifts, the altered schedule dictates that the first shift will begin at 7:45 am and conclude at 12:15 pm.

The second shift will extend from 12:30 pm to 5 pm on regular weekdays, and on Fridays, the second shift will be from 2 pm to 5:30 pm.

This adjustment in school timings comes in the wake of a week-long closure of educational institutions in the province earlier this month, coupled with the postponement of exams due to the prevailing cold wave and smog concerns.

As the region experiences varying weather conditions, the local administration aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students while facilitating a conducive learning environment.

The revised schedule is expected to accommodate these considerations while maintaining the continuity of academic activities.
