The amendment specifically targets Rule 17-A Employment, revising the compensation framework for families bereaved by the loss of a government employee.

Instead of offering employment opportunities to the widows or children, the government has opted to enhance the financial assistance provided to cope with the challenges of such circumstances.

Under the revised financial assistance rates, the families of deceased government employees will receive varying amounts based on the employee’s grade:

  • For employees falling within scales 1 to 4, the compensation ranges between Rs 1.6 million and Rs 5 million.
  • Those in grades 5 to 10 will be entitled to a compensation package of Rs 7.5 million.
  • Families of employees in grades 11 to 15 will receive a revised compensation amount of Rs 10 million.
  • Employees in the higher scales, specifically 16 and 17, will witness an increase in compensation to Rs 10.5 million.
  • Notably, employees in scales 18 and 19 will experience a substantial rise in compensation rates, now set at Rs 20 million.

This shift in policy emphasizes the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive financial support as opposed to job opportunities to the families affected by the loss of a government employee.
