Sukkur: The ‘Clean and Green Sukkur’ campaign announced by the CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and Sukkur Municipal Corporation marked its beginning on Friday. The campaign was initiated by taking out a cleanliness awareness rally. The rally started from the Globe Chowk Lab-e-Mehran under the leadership of Special Assistant to CM Sindh Barrister Arsalan Islam Shaikh, Commissioner Sukkur Ghulam Mustafa Phul, Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Javed Ahmd, and Administrator Sukkur Ali Raza Ansari.
A large number of citizens including religious scholars of all sectors, media persons, officials of government and non-government departments including NAB Sukkur, Sukkur High Court Association, Sukkur IBA University and others, representatives of political, social welfare, human rights, and civil society as well as teachers, students and people from various walks of life participated in the rally.
The participants of the rally were holding banners and placards inscribed with the slogans “Go green to breath clean”, “Say No to Pollution”, “Mera Kachra Meri Zimedari”, “Go Eco Friendly”, “Clean & green is Our Dream”, “Treat the Earth Well” and others.
Addressing the rally, former Mayor Sukkur Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh said that Sukkur city is ours and it is the duty of every citizen including district administration to keep it clean and tidy. As responsible citizens, we need to perform our national and religious duty of dumping garbage in its designated places including sanitation.
He added that until and unless the factor of public participation is not incorporated in government functionaries, the desired results can’t be achieved. The motive of this rally is to create awareness among the people and to ensure the participation of all citizens of Sukkur in making Sukkur city clean & green so that various diseases can be prevented. He appealed to the citizens and leaders to plant as many trees as possible to provide a clean and pleasant environment to society so as to avoid the effects of radiation.
Speaking to the participants of the rally, Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Javed Ahmed said that cleanliness is half of the faith and it is the social duty of all the people to keep their houses, streets, neighborhoods, and city clean while supporting the district administration. He appealed to the citizens to cooperate fully with the district administration and representatives of other concerned agencies including the municipal corporation and the cleaning staff to make the city clean & green.
While speaking to the rally, Administrator Ali Raza Ansari said that the whole staff of Sukkur Municipal Corporation and the officers assigned for cleaning the city are present here and the people should extend their full cooperation to them. The rally was also addressed by ADC 1, ADC 2, religious scholars, community leaders, and others.
