Lethal assault near Eiffel Tower claims one life. In a chilling incident near the iconic Eiffel Tower in central Paris, a lethal assault unfolded, resulting in the tragic death of a German national and injuries sustained by two other individuals, one of whom is a British citizen.

The assailant employed a knife and a hammer in the brazen attack, which transpired just before 9:00 PM local time on a Saturday evening.

Swift action by law enforcement led to the apprehension of the perpetrator, identified as 26-year-old French national Armand R.

Disturbingly, investigations revealed that the suspect had previously declared allegiance to the Islamic State group in a video shared on social media.

This revelation underscored Armand R’s troubling past, as he had served a four-year prison term in 2016 for attempting to travel to Syria to join the ranks of the aforementioned extremist organization.

Law enforcement authorities have detained family members of the suspect for questioning. Reports have emerged indicating that Armand R held critical views concerning French policies related to the ongoing situation in Gaza.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin confirmed the location of the attack at Quai de Grenelle and provided additional insights into the victim, who was in the company of his wife when the assault occurred.

The assailant, who was known to have psychiatric disorders, had been on the radar of French security services.
