KARACHI: A top producer for a private channel was killed in a botched robbery in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area on Friday.
According to authorities, Athar Mateen was shot and killed after ramming his car into the bike of alleged criminals who were looting a citizen. According to SSP Central Rana Maroof, as the alleged robbers fell down, they fired bullets at the vehicle, killing the media worker.
The suspects were able to flee the scene on a bike seized from a citizen, leaving their bike behind, according to the SSP.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has condemned the murder of Omar Mateen. “We share the bereaved family’s sadness,” the premier stated in a statement.
The prime minister ordered officials to make every effort to apprehend the perpetrators.
Fawad Chaudhry, the Minister of Information, also expressed his sorrow and grief at the death of the journalist. According to the minister, the Pakistan Peoples Party has failed to preserve law and order in Karachi.
He also expressed remorse for the “regular” attacks on journalists in Sindh’s interior, saying that technology must be used to make Karachi a secure place.
The PTI government is taking steps to protect journalists, according to the information minister.
Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh, was notified to the incident and ordered that the police submit a full report to his office.
The chief minister ordered the Additional AIG to finish the investigation and apprehend the offenders. CM Murad also offered his condolences for the senior producer’s death.
