Pat Cummins reaches Australia after World Cup 2023 triumph without any reception. The triumphant Australian cricket team, fresh off their stellar Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign in India, returned home to a rather subdued reception that left fans perplexed.
Having secured their sixth ODI World Cup title with a convincing victory over hosts India in the final, Pat Cummins’ men executed a flawless strategy, outplaying Rohit Sharma’s team in every facet of the game.
Despite the magnitude of their achievement, the Australian cricketers found themselves greeted by a seemingly ordinary welcome upon their arrival on Wednesday morning.
Social media buzzed with visuals of the subdued reception, prompting fans to question why the ODI world champions did not receive the heroes’ welcome many felt they deserved.
The images shared on social media depicted scenes at an Australian airport where Cummins and his team were met by only a few sports journalists capturing the moment, while regular passengers carried on with their business.

Comparisons were drawn with the fervor seen during events such as JCB excavations, leaving fans scratching their heads at the seemingly muted celebration for the cricket champions.
Reflecting on the remarkable achievement upon his arrival, Cummins expressed that the excitement of becoming ODI world champions had yet to fully sink in.
“I think we’ll be smiling for a fair while. We are still buzzing. Every half an hour or so, you kind of remember that you just won a World Cup and get excited all over again,” Cummins remarked during a press conference.
He emphasized the significance of the victory, especially in the context of playing in India, stating, “You only get one chance every four years, and especially playing somewhere like India, it’s hard.”
Cummins also touched upon the broader success of the Australian team, highlighting their triumph in an away Ashes series and the World Test Championship. “To be pitted up against the rest of the world and come away with a medal, it doesn’t get any better than that. Adding to that an away Ashes series, a World Test Championship, we couldn’t have planned for much better,” he added.
While some members of the Australian team have returned home, a few have opted to stay in India for the upcoming 5-match T20I series, scheduled to commence on November 23.
The subdued welcome, however, continues to be a point of discussion among cricket enthusiasts, with social media amplifying the sentiments of fans questioning the lack of a grand reception for the newly crowned ODI world champions.
