ICC introduces new rule ‘stop clock’.
In a groundbreaking move set to revolutionize Men’s One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the introduction of stop clocks during matches, slated to commence from December 2023 and extend until April 2024.
This innovative proposal, unveiled on Tuesday, aims to meticulously regulate the time interval between overs, fostering a more dynamic and time-efficient gaming experience.
According to an official release by the ICC, the trial period for this system will incorporate a stringent mechanism to ensure timely transitions between overs.
A notable feature of this trial includes the imposition of a 5-run penalty after the third instance in an innings, should the bowling side fail to commence the subsequent over within a stipulated 60-second timeframe following the conclusion of the preceding one.

Alongside the introduction of stop clocks, the ICC has greenlit modifications to the rules governing pitch and outfield monitoring.
The official statement outlines a streamlining of the standards for pitch evaluation, signaling an endeavor to refine the criteria by which pitches are assessed during matches.
Furthermore, there is a notable adjustment in the demerit point system, where the threshold for potential withdrawal of a venue’s international designation has been elevated from five to six demerit points over a five-year period.
