PIA likely to start direct flights to Australia

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the country’s flag airline, is ready to commence direct flights to Australia for the first time in the country’s history.

According to a local news outlet, the state airline’s two weekly flights to Australia would shave 30 percent off the existing travel time between the two countries. Passengers currently travel from Pakistan to Australia in 34 to 35 hours, with occasional stopovers. The travel duration would be decreased to 12.5 to 13 hours if direct planes were used.

According to the newspaper, a feasibility assessment was undertaken, which revealed how beneficial this move would be, citing the airline’s spokeswoman.

The weekly flights would start in late March or early April and be limited to Lahore and Karachi at first, with Islamabad perhaps added later.

It’s worth emphasising that, while PIA has taken a decision, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority in Australia has yet to approve it.
