California court rules in favor of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s agent in defamation lawsuit. In a recent legal battle, the Supreme Court of California delivered a verdict in favor of Salman Ahmed, the former international promoter and art agent of renowned artist Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, against a California-based show promoter, Bikramjeet Singh, and his company “Bollywood Events LLC.”

The lawsuit, amounting to $2.2 million, revolved around allegations of defamation, economic duress, and extortion.

The dispute centered on a contract signed between Singh’s company and promoter Karl Kalra, wherein they agreed to promote a concert featuring Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in San Jose, California, for a total sum of $250,000.

Singh, however, only paid $150,000 to Kalra before the scheduled event, leaving a balance of $100,000.

During the concert, which experienced a two-hour delay, $30,000 was handed to Salman Ahmed on Kalra’s behalf.

Singh contended that Ahmed had previously reduced Khan’s performance fee to $150,000, thereby absolving him of the additional $30,000.

Singh accused Ahmed and Khan of extortion, economic duress, and defamation, claiming that his reputation had been tarnished in the process.

However, the court ruled in favor of Salman Ahmed and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. California Superior Court judge Carrie A. Zepeda determined that Singh was bound by the original contract to pay the full $250,000.

The judge concluded that Singh’s failure to fulfill this financial obligation constituted a breach of contract.

Furthermore, the court found Ahmed’s explanation for the delayed start of the concert, stating that the promoter had not paid the full amount on time, to be truthful and not defamatory.

Salman Ahmed, who represented himself and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in the proceedings, expressed his gratitude for the court’s decision, emphasizing that the case was an attempt to conspire against Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

As California court rules in favor of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s agent in defamation lawsuit, the ruling strengthens Ahmed’s and Khan’s credibility, reaffirming their innocence in the face of the allegations made by Singh and Bollywood Events LLC.

This verdict marks a significant legal victory for Salman Ahmed and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, reinforcing the importance of contractual obligations and truthfulness in the entertainment industry’s business dealings.
