Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced her divorce from 10-year partner Andrea Giambruno.

Giambruno, a television journalist, has faced backlash in recent weeks for his sexist remarks.

Giambruno hosts a news programme on Mediaset.

Video clips from one of his recent off-air presentations show him using filthy language, rubbing his groyne, and making passes to a female coworker.

“Why haven’t I met you before?” he asks.

In another recording, he is heard allegedly advising female coworkers that they may work for him if they engage in group sex.

“Do you know that (name redacted) and I are having an affair? All of Mediaset knows it and now you do too,” he tells the woman, who is also off camera.

“But we’re looking for a third person, as we do threesomes. Foursomes too. Would you like to be part of our working group?” he adds.

Meloni told reporters last month that she should not be condemned for Giambruno’s words and that she would not address questions regarding his actions in the future.

Meloni and Giambruno met in a TV studio in 2014 and had a seven-year-old daughter.

The rift comes as the prime minister, 46, celebrates her first year in office as the leader of a right-wing coalition administration that has supported the conventional family as one of its policy pillars.

“My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost 10 years, ends here,” Meloni wrote on her social media accounts.

“Our paths have diverged for some time, and the time has come to acknowledge it,” she added.

She also thanked Giambruno for “the splendid years we spent together, for the difficulties we went through, and for giving me the most important thing in my life, our daughter Ginevra”.
