Why has Indian actress Zareen Khan arrested? A Kolkata court has issued an arrest order for Bollywood actress Zareen Khan, a crucial judicial step.

This development is connected to an alleged cheating case that stretches back to 2018, when the complaint was first filed against her.

The investigation resulted in the filing of a charge sheet against the actress, which was heard before the Sealdah court in Kolkata.

What is interesting, though, is Khan’s response—or lack thereof—to these judicial actions. Despite being aware of the ongoing case against her, she did not apply for bail or appear in court for her scheduled hearings.

As a result of her persistent absences, the court eventually decided to issue an arrest warrant against her.

When asked about the arrest warrant, she expressed surprise and apprehension about the situation.

She added that she feels these charges are false and stated that she will seek clarity from her legal counsel. She also suggested contacting her public relations team for interim information.

Why has Indian actress Zareen Khan arrested?

The incident in question occurred in 2018, when Khan was scheduled to play at a Durga Puja event in Kolkata. Despite their expectations, she did not appear, much to the dismay of the event organisers.

Following that, one of the organisers filed a formal complaint, accusing Khan and her manager of cheating.

This resulted in the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against both people, who were then summoned by authorities for questioning.

During the initial interrogation, Zareen Khan claimed that the event organisers had mislead her.

She said that she had been provided false information regarding the event, including assertions that significant political people such as Bengal’s Chief Minister would be present.

However, it was later revealed that the event, which took place in north Kolkata, was quite low-key. Furthermore, she claimed that confusion regarding airline arrangements and lodging forced her to miss the event.

Notably, Khan replied to these conditions by launching a case against the event organisers in a local court, further complicating the matter.

Following the completion of investigations into these charges and counter-allegations, a charge sheet was issued against both the actress and her manager.

While her manager elected to attend in court and seek bail, Khan chose not to, which resulted in the issuing of the recent arrest order against her.

Her lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee, has published a statement about the situation, claiming that it looks to be the result of misinformation.

Siddiquee claims in a two-page explanation that Khan has already acquired legal protection in this issue from the High Court of Calcutta.

He also emphasises that the complainant has continually postponed the process of serving legal documents in this case.

The statement states that the case centres around an incident in 2018 in which the actress was scheduled to perform at a Durga Puja event in Kolkata but did not show up.

Siddiquee’s statement reads, “I, on behalf of my client, Ms Zareen Khan, would like to unequivocally state the following: Any warrant that has been ‘inadvertently issued’ by the Learned Magistrate against my client appears to be a result of ‘miscommunication.’ My client has continuously enjoyed protection granted by the Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta in this particular case.”

Furthermore, Khan’s lawyer claims that the actress was misled into believing that the Kali Puja event was organised by the West Bengal government with the involvement of the Chief Minister, Sports Minister, and Ex-Sports Minister, shedding light on the case’s circumstances.

In terms of career, she made her Bollywood debut in ‘Veer,’ co-starring Salman Khan. She also appeared in a number of films in a variety of languages, including “Housefull 2” and “1921.” Her most recent film appearance was in Harish Vyas’ 2021 film ‘Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele’.
