Siraj took his first five-wicket haul in his 29th one-day international (ODI) and sent Sri Lanka’s top-order batters back to the dressing room in his second over. He finished the match with match figures of 6-21 from seven overs, including four wickets in one over.

Who is Mohammed Siraj?
Siraj was born in Hyderabad, Telangana, on March 13, 1994. His father used to drive auto rickshaws, and his mother was a housewife.
Siraj made his first-class debut for Hyderabad in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy tournament on November 15, 2015, under the coaching of Karthik Udupa.
On 2 January 2016, he made his Twenty20 debut in the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament. During the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season, he was Hyderabad’s leading wicket-taker, with 41 wickets at an average of 18.92.
In February 2017, he was acquired for 2.6 crores by the Sunrisers Hyderabad team for the 2017 Indian Premier League. In the 2018 IPL auction, he was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in January 2018.
He was the leading wicket-taker in the 2017-18 Vijay Hazare Trophy in February 2018, with 23 dismissals in seven matches. He was named to India A’s squad for the 2018-19 Deodhar Trophy in October 2018. He was named to India B’s squad for the 2019-20 Deodhar Trophy in October 2019.
On 21 October 2020, he became the first bowler in the history of the Indian Premier League to bowl back-to-back maiden overs in a single match.
International Career
Siraj played an important role in the India vs. New Zealand ODI series in January 2023. He took four wickets in the first ODI, assisting the team to a 12-run victory.
Siraj was named the No. 1 ODI Bowler in the ICC ODI Rankings for Bowlers on January 21, 2023.
Siraj was selected to play for India on August 21, 2023, and his name was included in the 15-man squad announced by the BCCI ahead of the 2023 Asia Cup.
On September 17, 2023, in the Asia Cup final, Siraj became the joint fastest bowler in ODI history to take a 6-wicket haul, equaling Chaminda Vaas’ 2003 World Cup record of 5 wickets in 16 balls against Bangladesh.
He finished with a career-high 6/21 and became the first Indian to take four wickets in an over.
