Arshad Nadeem becomes first Pakistani to win medal at World Championship.
Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s star javelin thrower, made history by becoming the first South Asian athlete to win a medal at the World Athletics Championship.
The Pakistani athlete finished second in a close race with India’s Neeraj Chopra; he won silver with a throw of 87.82m on his third try.
Neeraj Chopra of Pakistan’s eastern neighbour won gold with a best throw of 88.17m, while Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic finished third.
Despite a shaky start at an international event, Arshad recovered to throw a fantastic 82.81m in his second attempt. Arshad managed to throw the javelin for the fourth time at 87.12 metres after a magnificent third throw of 87.82 metres.
Pakistani olympic athlete made last enormous throw of 81.86m with around 80m in the fifth throw.

The outstanding Pakistani athlete who hails from the little village of Khanewal in Punjab province made history by bringing his country its first-ever medal at the World Athletics Championship.
As Arshad Nadeem becomes first Pakistani to win medal at World Championship, the 26-year-old qualified for the World Athletics Championship final earlier this week with a best throw of 86.79m.
Arshad won a gold medal in the 34th National Games in May of this year. He won the award after throwing his javelin the furthest distance of 78.02 metres. Arshad won the gold medal for the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) at the National Games.
Last year, he set a new record with his best throw of 90.18m in Birmingham to win gold at the Commonwealth Games. After a few days, he won gold at the Islamic Games in Turkey.
