Following instructions and a forecast from the Flood Forecast Division, over 76,000 people have been evacuated from Bahawalpur’s riverine areas as a precaution as the River Sutlej experiences flooding.

Sutlej experienced flooding after India increased the river’s water flow. According to a report published on Monday by the Flood Forecast Division, Sutlej experienced high-level flooding at Ganda Singh Wala and Sulemanki Headworks.

According to the report, the water inflow and outflow at the Ganda Singh Wala were 174,062 cusecs and 146,271 cusecs, respectively, at the Sulemanki Headworks.

As thousands have been evacuated from Bahawalpur as Sutlej witnesses flood situation, Tarbela Dam’s water level is 1,559.10 feet, while Mangla Dam’s is 1,242 feet.

Schools in the areas close to Sutlej have been closed, according to the education department. To help the evacuees, flood relief camps will be set up in the schools.

Ehtesham Anwar, the commissioner of Bahawalpur, had earlier stated that the divisional management was working around the clock to move residents out of the areas close to the banks of the Sutlej River and into safer areas.

“There is medium to high flood in Sutlej River and we have been continuing efforts to evacuate people to safe areas from the villages lying near banks of Sutlej River passing through Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur districts and other areas,” he said on Sunday.

In light of the flooding situation, he claimed that the government had also been offering facilities for people to evacuate their cattle to safe areas.

According to official sources, rescue and relief camps have been established in neighborhoods close to the banks of the Sutlej River so that people in the event of a flood-like situation can receive emergency aid.
