Now you can send HD photos on WhatsApp. WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, announced the launch of a new feature that allows users to exchange high-definition (HD) images with their friends.
WhatsApp CEO Will Cathcart made the news on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Meanwhile, WaBetaInfo — the instant messaging app watcher — shared some highlights about the new feature in a post on X.
Now you can send HD photos on WhatsApp; here’s how
- The HD option appears only for photographs deemed good enough to be delivered in high resolution. The HD option will not display if the compressed picture quality is not dramatically different from the high-quality image, or if the photo is not particularly huge in size.
- HD videos will be widely available to more users in the near future. However, it’s already available to some users.
- WhatsApp has no plans to natively bring this feature to photos shared via status updates.
- Sending a photo in “high quality” does not guarantee that it will be transmitted in its original quality. Light compression is still present. Image dimensions, on the other hand, are always kept. If you want to email a photo while keeping its quality, you should send it as a document.
