Iraq to lift Telegram ban after security clearance.
The Iraqi Ministry of Telecommunications has stated that it will withdraw the ban on the Telegram messaging app, which was enforced due to security and data breach concerns.
The restriction was first enacted earlier this week, citing incidents of personal information leaks from official state entities and citizens.
In Iraq, Telegram is widely used for communicating, as well as for getting news and exchanging material.
However, certain channels inside the programme have sparked concerns because they contain large amounts of personal data, including names, residences, and familial relationships of Iraqi people.
As Iraq to lift Telegram ban after security clearance, the ministry noted in a recent statement that the decision to lift the ban was made after the business responsible for the Telegram platform reacted to security authorities’ requests.
These standards centered on identifying and addressing the entities responsible for leaking citizens’ data. The corporation proved its willingness to fully collaborate with appropriate authorities.
In response to a Reuters query, a Telegram press team member stated that sharing private data without agreement is against Telegram’s terms of service.
To protect user privacy and security, the platform’s moderators actively remove such content.

The Telegram communications team emphasized that no private user data was requested or shared.
Previously, the ministry expressed its displeasure with the company’s failure to respond to its request to close channels responsible for leaking sensitive data from official state organizations and residents.

While Telegram is a popular communication tool and news source in Iraq, concerns about the unauthorized sharing of personal data prompted the authorities to step in.
The prohibition has now been lifted as a result of the company’s compliance with security rules, highlighting the continued need for attention and cooperation to safeguard data privacy in the digital age.
